Well, that was excruciatingingly dull! And I’m being kind. Really! Yes, I’ve just finished viewing our first installment of ACCESS TO GOVERNMENT. LCTV GONE UN-WILD!!!
Firstly, that wasn’t accessing government. That was travelogue, a tourist’s view of the mechanics of conformist, accomodationist managerialism at its antiseptic best. That’s what you get when apparatchiks have successfully purged the political dimension from analysis of government.
This was an example of institutionalized access to government, politically correct, cleansed of any controversy. “I love you…..you love me…la la la la la la dee.” Enter Barney the Dinosaur in all his glory or possibly next week Mr. Rogers returned from the grave: “Hi Neighbor!”
The philosopher Cornelius Castoriadis once defined institutions as organizations intended to exclude. That’s exactly what we had here tonight on LCTV, the effects of institutionalized exclusion of genuine political interest and questioning.
Did anyone call in? I didn’t hear anyone call in. Did I miss something? Did anyone care to call in? I don’t think so. Did I miss something? Was everyone so riveted to the passionate, earthshaking disclosures of governmental thought and action that they just couldn’t get around to calling in. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Possibly the phone system wasn’t working? Possibly, though, the producer/Director/Phone Operator fell asleep or died of boredom?
I think Jackie Davis even resorted to talking about the weather at one point. Oh my God: help us all!!!
As Sargent Friday used to say on Dragnet: “Just the facts, Ma’am.” And that’s what we got tonight, just the “facts.” But as in a court of law its only after the finding of facts that the truth be had. Only after the description does the interpretation and critique begin. But when one is allergic to cross-examination and criticism then truth is never to be had. The absence of critique is the space of censorship.
This was the “Truman Show” of governmental reality.
Enter the Matrix.
Well at least my Thursday evenings are now free.

Larry, I missed the 1st hour. But I was told that it was hosted by Marc Smith from the Town of Lockport. His Guest was the Town of Somerset Supervisor. They spent the entire hour talking about Windmills. Apparently with no call ins. Gee I wonder why.Please correct me if I`m wrong on that. I did manage to watch some of the 3rd hour. It was HORRIBLE!!!
The woman hosting the show seemed lost. Poor Mayor Tucker had to carry the show. As a fellow politican om sure he didn`t mind, I wouldn`t. But thats the host job to do.
By the way interesting title for your topic today. I would have called it something else. Even "diddling" perhaps. (just for Hobbes)But either way it seems to fit the scene I manage to watch before I changed the channel.
Larry, there was one phone call during the 7 p.m. hour. It was someome asking where Tom was. I watched most of the 7 p.m. hour and bits of the 9 p.m. hour. Jackie Davis was brilliant compared to Marc Smith, I can tell you that.
So after day 1 of "Asses in Government - Niagara County's official circle jerk," I don't think the LCTV board looks any better that before.
Tom was probably answering the 900 or so emails he has received in support of his show.

I can’t imagine what your wives most think of you guys (losers). You guys all hunker down on Thursday night in front of tube watching the great line up on LCTV. Leaning all about windmills (and such) instead of enjoying a fine Sabres game. LOL! I bet Larry even DVR it! Again pathetic!
I have a suggestion; you guys should take up a collection for poor old Tom; because the word on the street is that he is too cheap to “flip the bill” for another program.

You miss poor old tom’s leftist views and pessimistic attacks – what a shame. I have the solution – you need to get more “one-on-one” time with good old tom. Invite him over your houses; bring him to work with you; put his picture in your wallet. Get a life!
Listen – he had a good run; but the public spoke; just about everyone that you guys cried about was re-elected. I’m sorry that you did not get to have your “back slapping” party - get over it.

Barney...Did you miss the part were I stated that I missed the 1st hour. Hell I usually don't watch it on Thursdays. I have Town Board Meetings then. But its nice to catch from time to time during the week.
This isn't about me, Scott, or Larry. Its about the right to free speech moron. Christy's show provided that. To people who called every week, to people who couldn't make it out to see there elected officials, but had the opportunity to watch them and to interact.
Did you or anyone else even bother to think that perhaps that could be one reason that those people didn't get elected. Christy gave both sides the opporunity to give there reasons for what they were doing at the time.
Same on any elected official whether they were a Concervative, Democrat, Liberal, Independent, Republican, or Working Families party memember if they didn't want to answer to the public.

It’s really not an “old drum” that we’re beating, my friend. It’s ‘old’ only in the sense that autocratic types for the last 200 years have wanted to suppress democratic process and thus free speech. They’ve been pretty successful especially since they have cleansed the public educational system of any semblance of real civic education and political history. If you identify with that crowd, then I know why you consider my concerns nothing more than a substitute for not having a life.
When I watch Leg Journal I look for more than who built the latest energy saving windmill and such. I read between the lines and behind the words. That’s what Christy tried to get to. When he got close to the truth about a failing NC, he was censored.
The Legislature and the Educational leaders are not truly interested in raising the bar of democratic intelligence. Tom was on the right track. That’s why he got axed. An ignorant populace is so easy to fool and control. What Tom was doing was in no way “pessimistic” nor “attacking.”
The “dog and pony” show that replaced Tom Christy’s Legislative Journal that you saw last week is an example of where “discourse” will go if people are afraid to ask “the wrong questions.”
Someone once said that “free speech is taken away in the manner in which it is given.”
Free speech in Niagara County is that which preserves the status quo and the pro-business elite who choose to subsidize big business at the tax payers expense. If you haven’t heard it yet: its’s socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
You just have to have the guts to face the fact that we live in a deeply divided elitist society, exploitative, militaristic and slowly becoming a third world country.
Hey Barney: What do you mean by "the public spoke?" You know that's a crock of Shiite. The elite of Niagara County "spoke" and that's all that happened. Safely figuring that you're one of those too, why is it that you "don't get a life?" Lowering yourself to the depths of Sophism and Ad Homenum yourself tells me that it's not yet dry enough for you to be playing golf and strategizing on who you and your kind will put the screws to next.
There's no Free Speech or Free Thought with what's happened and if you choose to criticize that, then your motivation is certainly in question. When some bully kid shuts your kid up because he doesn't like turning over his lunch money or whatever, let that slide too then, will ya?
Everyone who can attend should. Our 1st Ammendment Rights are at stake here. Just ask Tom Christy what he thinks and he will tell you that there is more at stake here than just his show. If we "We the People" do not take a stand now, then it will be easier for the " Powers that be" to roll over the citizens of this county whenever they want!!
To those of us that live here in Niagara County, it is probably to late to ask this of you. I am asking you to write a letter of disapproval to your Legislator in Niagara County. If some of you are unsure who that person may be, email me and I will get you all of the info.
This letter should be in regards to the topic of FREE SPEECH. We as citizens, and more importantly TAX PAYERS (in the highest taxed area per pop. in the nation!!!) should have a right to question our Elected Officials. With the removal of Legislative Journal on TV we just lost that right. I am afraid to see what might be next.
For those of you that have known me for along time, you know I try not to ask for things like this. But this is that important.
5 AM and already on the computer - do you think anyone really cares about Tom. I think people are more concerned with the skyrocketing price of milk.
Rob, As an elected official – don’t you think that your time would be better spent serving the needs of the citizens of the Town of Niagara?
I can’t even imagine how many hours you must of logged for Tom Christy an Erie County resident.
Don’t you think your efforts could better serve in your community in a more meaningful way?
I’m sure their are lots issues around your neighborhood – is this the chief concern with the folks on Rhode Island Ave?
Maybe you should examine your priorities before you all called to task on this.
